State Route 1, South Frederica Grade Separated Intersection

Project Limits:

The project is located along the SR 1 corridor in Kent County, south of the town of Frederica. The approximate limits are 2600 feet north of the SR 1 and Frederica Road intersection to 1850 feet south of the SR 1 and Milford Neck Road\Tub Mill Pond Road intersection. The eastern boundary extends approximately 2300 feet along Milford Neck Road. The western boundary extends approximately 2400 feet along Tub Mill Pond Road.

Project Overview:

The intersection of SR 1 and Frederica Road (Route12) was identified as a potential grade separated intersection location through the Corridor Capacity Preservation Program. The existing at-grade intersection at Milford Neck Road and Tub Mill Pond Road will be removed and access to SR 1 will be provided via ramps. Frederica Road and Tub Mill Pond Road will be realigned to create a new service road on the west side of SR1. A total of five conceptual alternatives were developed and shown to the public at a workshop on May 12, 2008.

Current Project Schedule:

The project began in September 2007. Five alternatives were developed and presented to the public at a workshop on May 12, 2008. Based on input from the public, natural and cultural resources agencies, and emergency response agencies, a preferred alternative was selected and the preliminary design was presented to the public at a  workshop on November 10, 2009. The environmental investigation and documentation process is currently on-going. The design phase began in the fall of 2008.

Current Construction Schedule:

Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013.
